Christmas Fun!

Here's a fun story to share with your group:

There's a romantic full moon when Pedro says, "Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu."

"Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" say's Maria.

"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu.  I love you and it's the perfect time!" Pedro begged.

"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon," replied Maria.

"Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me."

Maria looked at Pedro and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang...

"Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"

Dirty Santa
Every December our SilverSneakers class has a party.  We all look forward to it- it's sooo much fun!  I bring the ham and they bring the side dishes and desserts.
We all bring a wrapped present (under $10) and we play a game where we steal the gifts from each other- some call the game Dirty Santa.  Each participant draws a number.  The person who draws Number 1 gets to unwrap the first present.  Number 2 can then unwrap another present or take number 1's present.  If they take number 1's present then number 1 gets to choose another present to unwrap.  You go through the group with each participant getting a gift.  At the end of the game, Number 1 gets to make one final decision to either keep their gift or steal someone elses.  We usually limit how many times the same gift can be stolen - usually 3x's.

Musical Present

For this game, I start by wrapping a present in a small box (a gift card works well).  I put lots of tape on the package to make it hard to unwrap.  I then repeat this by wrapping the small box in a bigger box and so on.

We sit in a circle and I hand the package to the first person.  Everyone counts to ten as the person tries to unwrap the package.  (Or you could  play music for 10 seconds)  They are surprised when they find that there is another wrapped box inside the first!!  Continue around the circle until someone finally gets to the gift.  That person gets to keep the gift.

These games are lots of fun!!  Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about them.  Please share any games that you play this time of year- We could all use some great ideas!!!

Alice's SilverSneakers Story

I want to share this great story with you.  It's from Alice J. Howard who attends the Chickahominy Family Y in VA.
How SilverSneakers has Affected my Lifestyle

I returned to my SilverSneakers class after being away for more than a year.  I celebrated my 67th birthday and decided to give myself a present of a more healthy and active year.  I was so happy to meet all the wonderful seniors who participate in the SilverSneakers programs.  Our instructors are an exceptional and dedicated group of professionals who make exercising fun and rewarding!

Recently, I was talking to my son, Reginald, on the telephone and noticed a knot in my right upper arm.  I mentioned it to my son with great concern.  He told me to look at my left arm and lo and behold there was a knot there, too!  Reginald said, "Those are your muscles, Mom!  SilverSneakers is working for you and you need to stick with it."  I hadn't seen muscles in so long, I thought they were gone forever!  We both laughed at my new found discovery and talk about all the  benefits of exercise for seniors!

Thank you SilverSneakers!  I am even more motivated to continue my quest for good health and well being through exercise and eating healthy!
